Fathers get the baby blues too.
You just became a dad, but you can’t shake the feeling that something is wrong. Maybe it’s a nagging sadness, a general sense that something bad is about to happen or a painful distance from any of the joy of this monumental moment. Men’s postpartum depression (PPD) and anxiety (PMAD) are real and you don’t have to suffer in silence or white knuckle your way through it.
We specialize in counseling for new dads who need help overcoming the sadness, pain and anxiety that can come with becoming a dad.
Therapy for male postpartum depression and anxiety
Most likely, no one prepared you for this moment. Maybe, you didn’t even know that this was possible. Sadly, at least 10% of men (and maybe as much as 20%) experience postpartum depression or anxiety. Many of them have never had an experience of depression or significant anxiety before.
You are not broken for feeling this grinding sadness, worry and disconnection when everyone around you is celebrating the new life that has joined your family. You aren’t cursed or damned to feel this way forever. You are not your darkest thoughts.
You can be the father you always wanted to be. You just might need a little help navigating this difficult moment.
Therapy is a place to safely move through these feelings and reconnect with all of the hope and joy that feel so distant right now.
The sooner you seek help, the easier it will be to move through this pain, but we are here to support you whether it’s been a few days or many months.
We have offices in Brooklyn and Nassau County, and work remotely with fathers all over New York State.
FAQs
What comes next?
After a consultation call where we can get a feel for each other and what working together might be like, we’ll start meeting weekly for 50-60 minutes. Most people stick to weekly meetings, but some choose to meet multiple times per week or every other week.
How long will we meet?
It’s different for each person based on the severity of their issues. Some dads have sessions for a few months until things feel resolved and some stick around because they value having time and space dedicated to reflection and growth.
What about fees and insurance?
We have a fee range of $200-250 per session and ask clients to select a fee that works for them. We’re not in-network with any insurance companies, but most of people get reimbursement through their out-of-network benefits. It varies based on plans, but we can help you navigate it.
